Video: Memphis Depay Finally Looked Like an Incredible Player Against Villarreal Last Night

Lyon appear to have one foot in the Europa League’s last-16 of the after last night’s victory over Villarreal, with Memphis Depay having provided an outrageous reminder of his true potential.

The Ligue 1 side secured a 3-1 victory over Villarreal at the Groupama Stadium, with Depay, Tanguy Ndombele and Nabil Fekir all on the score-sheet.

In fact, Lyon were so impressive against the Yellow Submarine, that the ex-Manchester United winger has shared a video on Instagram, of himself schooling the Villarreal defender’s last night:

It’s difficult to believe this is the same player who struggled to make any sort of impact during his ill-faited spell at Old Trafford, during which the Netherlands international mustered just seven goals.

Could this be a classic case of a player flourishing on a stage with lower expectations than the Manchester United fans demand?

Or was Depay always a great player in the making who simply struggled in Louis Van Gaal’s under-performing team?
