Before going into acting and starring in blockbuster flicks alongside the likes of Angelina Jolie, John Travolta and Nicholas Cage, Jones was a midfield enforcer for Wimbledon, Chelsea and Leeds United in the Premier League, and more than earned his reputation as a no-nonsense character.
And he’s revealed he nearly brought his uncompromising style north of the border, with the Ibrox club apparently keen on adding him to their squad.
Jones was appearing on talkSPORT when he recalled the anecdote, and was speaking with Gers flop Joey Barton, and former Scotland forward Alan Brazil.
He explained to Barton, via the Sun: “You had my dream move – I’d have loved to have played up there.
“I think you were hard done by there Joey, to be fair son.
“I was having sort of secret talks with them.
“They went to Wimbledon and Sam [Hammam] wasn’t going to sell me.
“Then all of a sudden, under my feet, they bought Terry Hurlock who I really admired as a player.
“Him and Bryan Robson I had more respect for than any of them really.”
In response, Barton replied: “It’s a great club Vinnie, what a football club.
“Just a little bit of a mess off the pitch at the minute.”
Regardless of who you support, there’s absolutely no denying it would’ve been brilliant to see a character like Jones in Scottish football, eh?
Just imagine the Old Firm clashes!
