After starring for Inter Milan in their historic treble season of 2010, Sneijder went on to score five goals at that year’s World Cup, leading to repeated links with Manchester United.
In fact, Sneijder was linked with United more or less in every transfer window until Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down in 2013, but the Dutch playmaker has explained how he nearly turned out for the Red Devils’ heated rivals.
Speaking via the Liverpool Echo, the 33-year-old said: “Many clubs wanted to know when I was leaving Inter, and Liverpool was one of those clubs, so people were surprised I chose Galatasaray.
“Why Galatasaray and not Liverpool? But I am a winner, I play for prizes, so I went to Galatasaray because I thought that I would win more at Galatasaray and be champion than at Liverpool, and I think afterwards that I made the right choice.
“I have had nice years in Turkey.”
Now, his words might seem a little harsh on Liverpool, given they’re one of the biggest clubs in world football, but Sneijder did go on to win two Turkish league titles and three Turkish Cups whilst at Gala.
Moreover, Liverpool are still waiting on their first trophy since 2012.
But what do you think of his comments?
