Exciting 17-year-old defender MacPherson has instead been given the nod by the Peru Under-20s and will train with some of their senior stars throughout the forthcoming international break.
Despite possessing one of the most Scottish-sounding names possible, MacPherson was actually born in the Peruvian capital Lima, and was called-up for their Under-18 squad last year.
But MacPherson performed so well that they’ve now accelerated his progression, and he’ll now show what he can do with the Under-20s, who’ll be training alongside the country’s top stars ahead of World Cup warm-up friendlies against Iceland and Croatia.
MacPherson lived in Lima until he was seven, meaning he definitely still qualifies for Scotland, and it could transpire that he has a tough decision to make if his progression continues at such a rapid rate.
Personally, considering our dearth of defensive talent, we reckon the Scottish FA will be keeping a very close eye on how MacPherson’s career develops over the next 18-months or so.
