Derek McInnes Says Cup Replay v Kilmarnock isn’t a ‘Season-Defining Game’

Derek McInnes says Aberdeen‘s Scottish Cup replay against Kilmarnock isn’t a ‘season-defining game’ despite it being their last opportunity to win a trophy this campaign.

The Dons boss spoke to the media yesterday ahead of side’s quarter-final replay at Rugby Park tomorrow night.

Aberdeen drew the first game 1-1 with Killie, failing to hold on to a 1-0 lead given to them by Graeme Shinnie as Kris Boyd hit a second-half winner for the visitors to Pittodrie a week-and-a-half ago.

Now they’ve got a second chance to advance to the semi-final, where they would meet Motherwell next month.

But McInnes has played down the importance of the game and said it wouldn’t define Aberdeen’s season either way:

Is that what Aberdeen fans want to hear though? The Dons have dropped out of second place in the Premiership after failing to win any of their last three league games and now have to bridge a five-point gap to Rangers if they want to get it back.

They lost out early in the Betfred Cup to Motherwell too so the Scottish Cup is their only chance of silverware and we’re pretty sure Aberdeen fans will see this as a defining game for their season.
