FAST FORWARD

It could be argued that we have hit another lull in the boxing firmament with not much available but don’t tell that to Hayemaker and the people on their bill tonight Saturday the 17th of March at the epic York Hall. We Scots have plenty to be shouting about tonight! Having won the Calcutta Cup, beating the English is suddenly achievable again!

Well, before that, we start with a cruiserweight fight for the Southern Area title between Wadi Camacho and Danny Couzens. This has all the hallmarks of a fight that should be perfunctory and is likely to prove much more than that, and it serves as a suitable entrée to two main events.

Firstly, that cross border clash for the British cruiserweight title between Matty Askin and that Scot, Stephen “Monster” Simmons. The weigh in and the press conference head to head has heightened the tension between them and you could hear a few choice words being shared. Simmons will have to box out of his skin but I hear he has been impressive in camp and that may not be too much of a problem.

The two cruiserweights are there to tee us up for the main event which is the third professional fight of heavyweight Joe Joyce who is up against a 21 stone Donnie Palmer. This ought to be the shortest fight of the night. Palmer does not come in with a massive pedigree and he does not come in with a reputation – Joyce early?

Elsewhere in Stoke there are 7 fights, in Aldershot 2 fights and in Irlam we have 5 fights. Meanwhile over in Liverpool BIBA provide 11 contests that include no fewer than 9 debuts and 4 undefeated fighters!
