Floyd Mayweather has sensationally claimed he could seriously consider buying Newcastle United – and bring his pal Cristiano Ronaldo with him.
The retired boxer is weighing-up his options after insisting his time in the ring ended with his stoppage of Conor McGregor back in August, and many reports have surfaced claiming he’s considering a move to the MMA.
However, ‘Money’ has now thrown Newcastle into the mix, after claiming he could be the man to end Mike Ashley’s ownership at St. James’s Park.
Quoted in the Sunday Star, via 101greatgoals, the 41-year-old was asked about the chances of him dipping his toe in the Premier League’s waters, and he replied: “You better believe if I were to invest in I would be back partying there often.
“I love Newcastle, those guys like to party as hard as any city I have been to anywhere in the world.
“I met some of the players last year and they are good guys.
“I am always open to new business opportunities and I love all sports, but I invest with my head not my heart.
“Investing with your heart is the quickest way to lose money.
“But if somebody put together a business plan and my people looking over it and went ‘Floyd that can make money’ then I would invest. Soccer might not be my game but I’ve got connections everywhere.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has been a long-time supporter and buddy of mine, so I might even be able to get him to finish his career off at Newcastle.”
Now, don’t get us wrong, the prospect of bringing in Mayweather as owner probably doesn’t sound like the most stable step for Magpies fans, does it?
But, then again, surely anybody’s better than Ashley at this point, no?
What do you think?
