The Red Devils boss spoke to the media this afternoon ahead of his side’s English Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Monday night.
As usual, it was an eventful presser, with Mourinho confirming that this looks like being Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s final season at the club.
But he also gave an update on Fellaini, who is approaching the end of his current contract at Old Trafford.
Despite being injured for much of this season, the Belgian has been linked with a move to Roma, among other clubs when his deal expires.
Fellaini has never been an automatic first choice at United, but has still managed almost 150 appearances for the club.
And Mourinho obviously rates him as it was confirmed today that the Portuguese boss wants him to stay at the club.
Per manutd.com, Mourinho said: “Is he going to stay or leave? I don’t know. I don’t know. I want him to stay, the club wants him to stay.
“The process, the negotiations, the numbers, the distances between the offer and what he wants – I really don’t know how things are going.”
It’s looking increasingly unlikely that Fellaini will remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer so teams will be on red alert to start negotiations with him.
But you can’t count out the pulling power of United and they may yet be able to persuade the Belgian that his future is in Manchester.
