Michael Carrick’s Praise of Scott McTominay Will Excite Scotland Fans

Michael Carrick‘s praise of Scott McTominay is sure to excite Scotland fans after his call-up to the national team yesterday.

Alex McLeish named his first Scotland squad for their upcoming friendlies with Costa Rica and Hungary later this month and McTominay was included among a raft of new faces.

He’s earned that call-up due to his breakthrough at Manchester United, playing 17 times for Jose Mourinho so far this season.

Mourinho has regularly praised him in the press and continued to keep faith with him despite the quality options he has in midfield at Old Trafford.

And his teammate Carrick – who knows all about playing in centre midfield for the club – has backed him to be a big part of their future.

Speaking yesterday, Carrick, per, said: “I think it is quite refreshing to look at Scott and see how he deals with it.

“He goes about his business, he comes in, he is always in doing extra training. He’s desperate to do well and he’s always looking for those little things to improve on.

“All the glitz and the glamour that can surround young players these days, he doesn’t seem too interested in that, which is fantastic especially at this stage of his career.

“It’s about making a career, that’s how it is. You can’t live like you’ve had a career before you’ve had the career – you’ve got to earn it.”

“But he’s still got some way to go to fully establish himself as a big player for this club but so far he’s on a great track, he’s given himself the best possible chance to fulfil that.

“He’s a shining example to kids looking up to how you can be within yourself and how you are coping, your body language, mentality. He’s done great.”

That’s sure to excite Scotland fans who are keen to see McTominay in their colours later this month.

He’s joined in his first Tartan Army squad by five other uncapped players, with McLeish rewarding Dylan McGeouch, Scott McKenna, Jon McLaughlin, Barry Douglas and Oli McBurnie with call-ups.
