The 36-year-old centre-back arrived at Ibrox last summer and looked like something of a coup for the Glasgow giants, but things really haven’t panned out too well for the former Fenerbahce, Porto and Zenit defender.
Injuries and poor form have hampered his time in the Scottish Premiership, but he was thrown into today’s Old Firm clash by Graeme Murty, with the Gers boss looking to clearly draw on his wealth of experience next to rookie David Bates.
But despite having 94 caps for Portugal, Alves just couldn’t cope with the Hoops attack, and looked particularly suspect for Moussa Dembele’s crucial goal just before half-time.
Alves has a deal until the summer of 2019 – but it doesn’t look like he’s particularly wanted anymore:
Bruno alves has cost us this game.

Sorry but Bruno Alves is supposed to be an experienced international defender, but today he looked like he wanted to be anywhere but Ibrox today couldn't marshall a school crowd total fraud 😠😠😠

Cannot wait till bruno alves leaves his full rangers career has been an absolute farce

For once I got a printed prediction spot on, a 3-2 win for Celtic in an Ibrox thriller. Rangers could be hungover for a while. Olivier Ntcham outstanding, Bruno Alves abysmal. Scott Bain assured in remarkable debut.

Bruno Alves is not the leader we had hoped for. Absolutely finished

Bruno Alves is so frustrating! More experience than anyone on the park and volleys a player in the back of the leg in the 91st minute to take all the pressure off them! Wins plenty of headers but I’d look elsewhere in the summer!

If Bruno Alves starts in the World Cup for Portugal I will get his full name tattooed on my arse.

Bruno Alves has just let the ball bounce infront of him. Please tell me I'm seeing things…. pathetic

Bruno Alves runs in fucking slow motion
— Lee Pincombe (@leepincombe1872) March 11, 2018
Bruno Alves is about 45 should have enough experience about him to deal with that ball over the top and Cardoso has shown why he doesn’t play anymore piss poor from the pair of them

He played a part in his country winning the European Championships in 2016 but does he really have nothing to offer Rangers?
What do you think?
