Sam Allardyce proved once again that he is as old-school as Premier League managers come this afternoon, as the Everton boss promised a “bollocking” to whoever leaked Gylfi Sigurdsson’s injury timeline.

On first viewing the Toffees midfielder seemed to make it through Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Brighton unscathed.

However, after feeling a pain in his knee, the Iceland international visited a specialist on Monday.

And it’s now being reported that Sigurdsson, Everton’s record signing, could miss the remainder of the Premier League season and may even struggle to regain fitness in time for this summer’s World Cup.

Allardyce meanwhile remains hopeful that the former Swansea star will be able to return before Everton’s final game against West Ham on May 13, claiming whoever leaked the reports of an eight week lay-off would get a “bollocking.”

BBC Sport reporter Juliette Ferrington shared Allardyce’s comments on her Twitter account:

Difficult to imagine a manager like Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp coming up with such a no-nonsense comeback like Big Sam did here!
