Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has paid a massive compliment to Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea tonight – by jokingly revealing how much he hates the Spaniard.
De Gea and his United colleagues are back in action tonight in the Champions League last-16, and are favourites to progress to the quarter-finals after securing a 0-0 draw away in Sevilla two weeks ago.
The Red Devils were only saved from a first-leg defeat in Spain thanks to de Gea’s remarkable first-half save, which only cemented his status as probably the greatest goalkeeper in the world at the moment.
Gerrard is a pundit for BT Sports for tonight’s second-leg at Old Trafford and before kick-off the former England captain was effusive in his praise of de Gea – well, sort of:
"The biggest compliment I can pay him is I hate him!" 😂

🗣 “The biggest compliment I can pay David De Gea is I hate him and so do Liverpool fans. He makes difficult shots look easy. He is world class. He’s the best keeper in the world.”

To be fair, he’s probably right – most people in Liverpool do probably hate David de Gea, but only in a sporting sense, of course.
What do you make of Gerrard’s comments?
