UEFA have introduced significant rule changes for the Champions League and Europa League next season.
Despite both competitions being hugely popular, they can always be improved and that’s what the governing body will attempt to do with these changes that have been revealed today.
After February’s UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Bratislava and the decisions taken by football’s lawmakers, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), on 3 March in Zurich, the following has been announced, per uefa.com:
1 – Fourth Sub in Extra-Time of Knockout Games
Now a fourth substitute outside of the usual three will be able to play a part in extra time of any knockout fixture. That means managers will now be able to freshen up their teams when it gets to the difficult stage of playing 120 minutes against one of the best sides in Europe.
