Was Manchester City chief executive Txiki Begiristain unhappy at drawing Liverpool in the Champions League?

The Spaniard was in Nyon, Switzerland this morning to find out who his team will play in the quarter finals of the competition.

They ensured safe passage to the last eight after beating Basel 5-2 on aggregate in the last-16, joining Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Roma, Sevilla, Bayern Munich and Liverpool in today’s draw.

But obviously Begiristain had other teams in his mind when it came to the ideal quarter final draw.

Cameras were on him as City were pulled out of the hat alongside Liverpool – and some Liverpool fans think he didn’t look happy at all:

Is he unhappy?

His comments after the draw suggest he probably was, admitting that he would have preferred to play someone from abroad rather than another English side.

Begiristain, per City’s official Twitter account, said: It’s a very difficult one. We like to travel and to go to another country in the Champions League but it is what it is.

“We know each other very well, they are a very offensive team, the truth is it is going to be a great couple of games and we are going to see good football.

“In the Champions League there is no time for mistakes, everything has to work, you have to be almost perfect in both games.

“We know the power and the strength of Liverpool – in the league they beat us away and we beat them at home.”

Liverpool and City have beaten each other already this season, but there’s a 21-point gap between the teams in the Premier League table and that means the Manchester club will go into the tie as favourites.

But there’s no doubting it will be an entertaining quarter-final too between two of the most entertaining teams in the competition.
