The 22-year-old arrived a season-long loan deal at Ibrox from Cardiff City last August, and has spent most of the campaign as the club’s first-choice left-back after Lee Wallace’s constant struggles with injuries.
John’s form has been so impressive that it’s caught the eye of new Wales manager Ryan Giggs, who handed John a starting berth in last week’s 6-0 win over China, and today’s 1-0 defeat against Uruguay.
The reverse against the South Americans means Giggs and his new charges won’t be coming home with the silverware, but it could go down as the competition in which Declan John emerged as a serious international footballer:
Declan John was class today for Wales. If it wasn’t for Gareth Bale scoring a hat-trick he would’ve been man of the match 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Good to see Declan John getting a run out and doing so well, Ampadu in for big Ash and Rambo for Vokes and we’ll be looking good for Mexico!

Pity we couldn’t nick a goal but a very promising start to Giggs’ reign. Vokes seems to be working much better than under Coleman already. Wilson and Declan John both very promising. Lots of fringe/young players given some experience too.

Harry Wilson looks the part too and someone like Declan John could play a huge part in the future. Add to this the likes of Woodburn, Ampadu and Brooks and it's completely OK to feel some butterflies in your stomach. #TogetherStronger

John signed permanently for the Ibrox club back in January on a three-and-a-half deal, and is he now first-choice left-back ahead of Lee Wallace?
What do you think?
