Bookies Price Celtic & Newcastle Amongst Favourites to Sign Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres has revealed he’ll be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer – and two of Britain’s biggest clubs have already been credited with an interest in signing the Spanish World Cup winner.

Having lifted the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup and European Championships during his glittering playing days so far, you could be forgiven for wondering why Torres, at 34, isn’t considering hanging up his boots, but he’s confirmed he will play on beyond this summer, despite his exit from his boyhood club.

He might not be the jet-heeled striker that Liverpool fans remember bursting onto the scene in 2006 but Torres still has something to offer prospective employers, as his seven goals this season for Atletico show.

And the stats compilers at Oddschecker reckon both Newcastle and Celtic are two clubs who could be in running for his signature.

Given his previous work with Rafa Benitez, a swansong on Tyneside doesn’t seem too far fetched, and Torres will almost certainly be aware of Brendan Rodgers given their respective backgrounds with Chelsea and Liverpool.

At this point, bookies reckon St. James’s Park is the far more likely destination at 6/1, whilst Celtic are available at a more attractive 25/1.

Could we see Torres back on British shores soon? Stranger things have happened!
