FAST FORWARD

Saturday the 14th of April sees action throughout the country without a headline you will see in any of the dailies. In Leicester we have super featherweight action for the British title between Sam Bowen and Maxi Hughes which looks like the pick of the weekend whilst in Cardiff the EBU female super flyweight fight between Ashley Brace and Xebia Jorneac is likely to interest everyone who wants to see the women’s game start to gather momentum. It is fights like these that are the cornerstone of the fight industry and without them we may gaze at stars, but superstars will fail to appear because they need bills like these and fights like these to learn and grow.

Elsewhere tonight there is action in Belfast with 3 fights, in York Hall with a mammoth 21 fights and in Airdrie BIBA bring 3 contests to Lanarkshire. Lightweight Jamie McGinnis takes on Danny McStay on his debut, cruiserweight Ben McGivern takes on Ben Hough whilst another lightweight bout has Paul Brannen facing Danny Tinklin. BIBA continue to make contests throughout the UK and are becoming a bigger and brighter force – Airdrie will soon be followed in Scotland by Ayr so keep tuned.

Later in the week on Thursday the 19th of April, in Glasgow the St Andrew’s Club brings us the Scottish lightweight title fight between Ahmed Ibrahim and Ryan Collins. Much has been made of Ibrahim and plenty of serious faces will be expecting him to make good, so I expect a bit of a battle and a winning smile from Ibrahim at the end…

Finally, this week, on Friday the 20th of April in Leeds we have a further 8 fights to end it.
