Manchester United Fans Are Absolutely Slaughtering Chris Smalling

Manchester United fans are absolutely slaughtering Chris Smalling this afternoon after the centre-back’s woeful first-half display against bitter rivals Man City.

The Red Devils travelled across Manchester for the latest instalment of the city’s derby match, and Smalling and all of his team-mates would’ve known City could clinch the Premier League title by winning today’s match.

Despite starting in quite a solid style, it wasn’t long before United were quickly undone by their hungry opponents – and Smalling was very much at the scene of the crime.

In eerily similar scenes to a match back in April 2012, Smalling failed to properly challenge Vincent Kompany at a corner-kick, allowing the big Belgian to smash home a header unopposed – and some United fans have well and truly seen enough of the England international:

City made it 2-0 not too long after Kompany’s header, with İlkay Gündoğan getting in on the action, and Smalling wasn’t exactly brilliant for that goal either.

He’s been criticised by his own fans before, but is this the straw which broke the camel’s back for Chris Smalling?

What do you think?
