Plenty of Manchester United Fans Were Delighted to See Sunderland Relegated Again

Sunderland were relegated to League One at the weekend – and plenty of Manchester United supporters were absolutely delighted to see it confirmed.

This time last year, Sunderland were still a Premier League club, and fighting for their survival in the top-flight under David Moyes, but from August they’ll be playing in the third tier of English football – up against the likes of Gillingham, Northampton and Walsall.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Burton Albion confirmed the Black Cats’ departure from The Championship and some United fans reckon Sunderland have simply been served a healthy slice of karma.

Back in 2012, Manchester United were in a neck-and-neck race for the Premier League title, and faced a trip to Sunderland on the final day of the season.

Of course, this was the year of Sergio Aguero’s dramatic late goal against QPR, meaning City clinched their first top-flight title in more than 40 years.

United beat Sunderland 1-0, but the home fans took delight in ribbing and mocking United fans that day – something that Sir Alex Ferguson kept in mind, along with plenty of fans:

That really has come back to haunt them, eh? What goes around comes around.
