Rangers Fans Are Hoping They’ve Seen the Last of Russell Martin in a Blue Jersey

Rangers fans are still recovering from yesterday’s harrowing defeat against arch rivals Celtic and one man taking a lot of the flak seems to be defender Russell Martin.

The Scotland international joined the Ibrox club on-loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window, and his experience and know-how was supposed to bring stability and calmness to the Gers’ leaky backline.

However, things really haven’t gone to plan for Martin since arriving in Glasgow, and yesterday’s Scottish Cup semi-final was a real nadir for the 32-year-old.

He and his fellow centre-back Ross McCrorie badly struggled to contain a rampant Moussa Dembele all afternoon, and Martin’s awful clearance allowed Callum McGregor to score Celtic’s second in a thumping 4-0 win.

Martin is out-of-contract in the close season, and it had been assumed he’d stay on with Rangers for at least one more season – but the odds of him extending his deal now seem pretty remote:

What do you think of Martin’s performance, and the reaction from fans?
