Rangers Fans Aren’t Happy With Alastair Johnston’s “Ahead of the Curve” Comments

Alastair Johnston believes Rangers are currently “doing a little better” than the board would have expected, leaving plenty of Gers fans furious on social media.

Johnston, who is a director at Rangers, was speaking after what’s been a hellish week for the Light Blues faithful.

Firstly, the club’s hopes of securing a Scottish Cup final berth were blown to smithereens with a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Celtic at Hampden.

The futures of both club captain Lee Wallace and fan favourite Kenny Miller were then thrown into uncertainty, as the pair were suspended pending an investigation into a furious row with Rangers boss Graeme Murty.

However, Johnston believes Rangers remain ahead of the curve, despite the team facing a frantic battle to secure second spot in the Scottish Premiership.

“We are probably doing a little better than we would have imagined back in the dark days of running out at Brechin in the fourth tier,” Johnston told PA Sport.

“So you have to look back. The fans have been terrific, as I would have expected them to be, to hang in there and hopefully they will be rewarded.”

“In terms of looking forward from where we were four or five years ago at the bottom, the progress that has been gradually made, we are probably ahead of the curve in reality if we finish second or third.”

“We are making progress,” he added.

Johnston’s comments haven’t went down well with Rangers fans though, with a clear majority feeling furious that their former chairman believes current standards are acceptable:

Is Johnston’s interview another example of the Rangers board being out of touch with the demands of their supporters?
