It took them the best part of an hour but Arsenal have finally find a way through Diego Simeone’s stubborn Atletico Madrid, with Alexandre Lacazette netting the Gunners’ opener.
Arsenal have been dominant throughout their Europa League semi-final with the La Liga giants, with the home side taking full advantage of Atletico being down to 10 men for much of the contest.
Croatian defender Sime Vrsaljko was shown a red card after picking up two yellows withing the first 10 minutes, before Simeone was sent to the stand for his furious reaction.
Arsene Wenger’s side have been pinging the ball around for fun ever since, however, Atletico have proved their defensive solidity as it’s taken their Premier League opposition an hour to break them down.
The decisive opener came after a brilliant looping cross from Jack Wilshere found Lacazette, who managed to get enough on his header to guide it beyond Jan Oblack:
The resistance has been broken!

Despite falling a goal behind, Atletico have offered little going forward in a bid to trouble the Arsenal rear-guard.
Will a 1-0 lead be enough of an advantage for Arsenal ahead of what will surely be a tricky encounter in the Wanda Metropolitano?
