Chris Coleman has admitted he doesn’t know where Jack Rodwell is mentally, in terms of playing for Sunderland again, in news which will surely be of interest to Celtic fans.
Ex-Manchester City midfielder Rodwell was linked with a surprise move to Celtic Park in the January transfer window, with sources suggesting Brendan Rodgers was keen to reignite the 27-year-old’s floundering career.
However, in this afternoon’s press conference, Black Cats boss Coleman admitted Rodwell has since refused to play for his current employers… and probably wouldn’t be match fit even if he was called upon.
Sunderland were consigned to a second successive relegation last weekend after a disastrous campaign in the English Championship.
And it appears Rodwell’s insistence that he wanted to leave the Stadium of Light wasn’t exactly a positive influence in the club’s dressing room:

Should Celtic still look to sign Rodwell? A player who looked like a fantastic prospect… prior to his struggles in England’s North East.
Or is Coleman’s interview a timely reminder of how close the Hoops came to bringing in a player who could have caused friction behind the scenes?
