Jack Wilshere was involved in a heated altercation with Southampton defender Jack Stephens at the Emirates this afternoon, with the England international ripping his opponent’s shirt during a scuffle.
Arsenal secured their 6th victory in a row with a 3-1 win over the Saints, thanks to a brace from Danny Welbeck and a goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, with Mark Hughes’ team staring down the barrel of Premier League relegation, tempers began to flare toward the end of the game.
And it appears the defeat got the better of Stephens, as he lashed out at Wilshere after the midfielder ripped his shirt during a race for the ball.
The altercation started when Wilshere’s misplaced pass was intercepted by Stephens, with the pair then battling to retrieve possession.
Stephens didn’t take too kindly to being pawed at by Wilshere though, and hauled the 25-year-old to the ground:
So happy that some belly and guts is creeping back @arsenal little @JackWilshere taking no crap and look at @seadk6 and #xhaka 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽 that’s all we ask for #COYG #AFCvSFC ⚪️🔴 oh when the saints… pic.twitter.com/QBdJMQEia2

Andre Marriner immediately reached for his pocket after the coming together and showed Stephens a straight red for raising his hands, however, Wilshere escaped with just a yellow.
The game did end with 10 players on each side though, with Marriner showing a controversial red to Mohamed Elneny shortly after the incident.
