Atletico Madrid have had the worst possible start to their Europa League semi-final with Arsenal tonight, after defender Sime Vrsaljko was shown a red card and manager Diego Simeone was sent to the stand within 10 minutes.
This evening’s game marks Arsene Wenger’s final European match at the Emirates, with the Frenchman set to leave the Gunners at the end of the season.
And while Atletico were the clear favourites to advance to next month’s Europa League final when the draw was made, Arsenal were handed a terrific boost when Vrsaljko received two yellow cards in the first-half.
The Croatian earned an early booking for a foul on Jack Wilshere, before later bringing Alexandre Lacazette down with an ill-timed lunge.
Needless to say, Simeone went bonkers when the referee refused to book an Arsenal player minutes later, a reaction which earned him a walk to the stands:
Diego Simeone is not happy 😳

Can Arsenal take advantage of Simeone’s absence and give Wenger the perfect send off with a European cup final?
