Brendan Rodgers Insists Charly Musonda is Still a Celtic Player

Brendan Rodgers insists Charly Musonda is still a Celtic player – despite talk he has been recalled early by Chelsea.

The Hoops manager led his side to a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle this afternoon.

But he did it without the services of Musonda, who missed out on another squad without any explanation as to why before the game.

The on-loan Chelsea man has made just eight appearances for the club since joining on an 18-month loan at the end of January.

And the majority of those matches have seen him come off the bench – so it’s not been an ideal start to his life in Scotland.

We brought to you last night a story about his mum posting on social media that he’d return home for good – leading to the assumption that his loan deal has been ended early.

But Rodgers insists he’s still a Celtic player and is only back at Stamford Bridge recovering from an injury.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Rodgers was asked if Musonda is still at the club and he responded: “Yep – Charly hurt his shoulder in the week when he was away and he’s obviously gone back to Chelsea to get treatment on that.

“So he may or may not feature between now and the end of the season, but he’s obviously a Chelsea player and they want to look at him to see if he’s ok.”

So he’s still a Celtic player, but is injured? You do wonder if it’s inevitable that the loan will be cancelled in the summer if Musonda fails to make another appearances for the club between now and the end of the season.
