The on-loan Nottingham Forest striker was given another run out from the start this afternoon as Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson went with two up front for the visit of Steve Clarke’s men.
Seeing Cummings alongside Alfredo Morelos would have excited supporters – but they only got 45 minutes of the front pairing before the former Hibs man was substituted.
At first, you assume that the caretaker management team may not have been happy with Cummings’ first half.
But then you remember that he could be injured – and that was confirmed (sort of) by the player himself afterwards.
Cummings took to his Instagram story to explain why he was substituted at half-time:
Cummings is undoubtedly playing for his future at Ibrox as his loan spell is set to end after next weekend’s final game against Hibs.
Steven Gerrard will be manager and will no doubt watch on the remaining games to see who he fancies and who he doesn’t.
But if Cummings can’t recover in time for Tuesday’s clash with Aberdeen then it could be unlikely that he’ll be seen again – and that doesn’t bode well for him continuing his Rangers career beyond the summer.
