Cummings moved to Forest from Hibs in the summer of 2017 for a fee in the region of £1.2 million but failed to settle at the Cit Ground and was quickly playing his football for the reserve sides.
He was sent out on-loan to Rangers during the January transfer window, and despite failing to make himself a first-choice at Ibrox, Cummings has managed to bag himself six goals for the Light Blues.
He still has several seasons to run on his contract at Forest, but it seems he’ll definitely be leaving the Championship club during the close season – although it remains to be seen if he’ll end up back in Glasgow.
Speaking via the Sun, Karanka explained: “It has been a shame, because they [young players out on-loan] have not really played.
“The young players like Walker, Clough and Cummings were on loan to play, to check them and what they could offer.
“We wanted them to report back for pre-season and show us the progress they had made.
“But they did not play regularly, so we need to think about them.
“They are young, they are talented. But they need to play.
“If they were unable to play at Rangers or at Bolton, imagine how difficult it is going to be for them to play here.”
It remains to be seen if incoming Gers boss Steven Gerrard has been impressed sufficiently with Cummings to try and make his deal permanent, but do you think Rangers should be forking out the fee and wages required to sign Cummings?
