The Liverpool manager has had to be coy publicly this week amid rumours that Gerrard was set to take over at Ibrox.
But he can now officially comment on the move after Rangers unveiled the Anfield legend as their new manager.
Klopp has praised Gerrard’s decision to swap his club’s Under 18s job for a big role at Ibrox.
There’s no doubting the appointment has impressed Rangers fans, but Klopp insists Celtic fans may even be stunned by the move.
Speaking via liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said: “If Stevie thinks it’s the right moment then I’m sure it is the right moment. If he thinks he’s ready then he’s ready,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com in reacting to the news.
“How I know it, Rangers are a big club in a little bit of a difficult moment still but a much better moment than a few years ago. It could be a really good fit, it could be nice, coming closer to Celtic.
“I’m pretty sure Celtic supporters don’t think, ‘Thank God, Steven Gerrard’. They think, ‘Wow, Steven Gerrard’. That can always be a sign.
“Stevie is one of the best midfielders ever. Now he wants to be a manager. He has the passion for football and the knowledge about football. All the rest is to learn; I’m sure he learned a lot in the last year.
“I’m really happy for him to have the opportunity.”
We’re not so sure Celtic fans will be impressed given they’re impressed by very little that happens at Ibrox – and vice versa.
But it’s sure to make for a very entertaining next season for Scottish football as Gerrard attempts to stop Brendan Rodgers and Celtic’s domination of Scottish football.
Gerrard has signed a four-year deal at Rangers and will take over the job officially on June 1st.
