Going into the match, the Gers were still fighting for the right to finish the season in second spot, but travelling supporters were left gobsmacked to find Hibs 3-0 ahead after just 24 minutes – prompting a rethink by interim boss Jimmy Nicholl.
He quickly made a first-half sub, bringing midfielder Sean Goss off for the experienced Alves, who was summoned to bring on some much-needed experience from the bench.
The Portugal international did just that, and his team launched a comeback – which he completed in style before the half-time break:

Given his big reputation, and glittering CV, Alves has failed to really deliver since arriving in Scotland last summer, but this goal alone was worth the wait.
What a finish, eh?
Should Steven Gerrard consider making Alves one of his key players for next season?
