The Portuguese coach stood up at United’s end of season awards ceremony last night to give his reasons for picking his player of the year.
You’d think the usual suspects would be up there, like David de Gea, Nemanja Matic or Romelu Lukaku.
But Mourinho instead went for United youngster McTominay, who is coming to the end of his breakthrough season in the first team.
According to the Old Trafford boss, the Scot has done everything in such a short space of time and that’s why he deserves the manager’s award.
For McTominay, it must have been amazing to hear such a legendary manager speak about him so highly:

And it’s a boost for Scotland fans too as it confirms they’ve got a very special player on their hands moving forward.
Alex McLeish handed the midfielder his debut call-up and cap in his first match in charge earlier this year and you’d expect the English-born talent to feature more when qualifying kicks off later this year.
