Former Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson has revealed he started a half-time brawl between his ex-team-mates and Porto’s players and management staff during the 2003 UEFA Cup final.
Thompson played a vital role in the Hoops reaching their first European final in 33 years under Martin O’Neill, but would go on to lose a nail-biting final 3-2 to Jose Mourinho’s cynical Portuguese side.
The playacting and wily tactics of the Porto players left a lot of bad blood between the teams and in an exclusive interview with Open Goal Sport, Thompson has revealed there was a bit of a set-to during the half-time break – and a certain Special One was sent back to his dressing room needing a change of clothes:

Regardless of who you support, there’s definitely something mildly entertaining about picturing Jose Mourinho being squirted with a Lucozade bottle at close-range, don’t you think?
And with Bobo Balde and Johan Mjallby in their ranks, surely only one team would’ve come out on top in the fisticuffs?
