Arsenal Midfielder Elneny Takes Absolute Pounding For His Display in Egypt’s Defeat to Russia

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is being slaughtered by football fans everywhere tonight for his lacklustre performance in Egypt’s 3-1 defeat to Russia in the World Cup.

Being on the books at Arsenal, Elneny is one of Egypt’s most high-profile players and a lot was expected of him at this summer’s tournament, along with Liverpool star Mo Salah.

After losing their opening group match of the tournament 1-0 to Uruguay last week, the pressure was on the Egyptians to claim at least a draw against the hosts in tonight’s match in Saint Petersburg.

However, they were completely overran for most of the match, and it seems to be the Arsenal No.4 who is taking the brunt of the criticism, following his rather dismal display.

Elneny was hooked on 63 minutes – but that hasn’t stopped onlookers from making their feeling pretty clear on social media:

What do you think of Elneny’s performance? Was it really that bad?

And is he a player good enough to play regularly for Arsenal?
