Everybody’s Raving About Russia Midfielder Aleksandr Golovin After World Cup Opener

Russia opened up their World Cup campaign as hosts this evening with a resounding 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia – and it was midfield play-maker Aleksandr Golovin who well and truly stole the show.

Going into the tournament opener in Moscow, the Russian hosts were seriously unfancied to make any sort of dent, with some newspapers calling the current squad the worst-ever in the country’s history.

Perhaps that fired the Russian players up, because there was no stopping them against the Saudis inside the packed Luzhniki Stadium today.

Golovin has previously been linked with Manchester United recently, and is thought to be close to sealing a transfer from current club CSKA Moscow to Serie A giants Juventus.

However, after setting up three of the five strikes in Russia’s resounding win – as well as thumping in a brilliant free-kick in injury-time – his price-tag may well have just gone through the roof – and his classy display certainly wasn’t unnoticed on social media:
