Kylian Mbappe Puts Himself into Player of the World Cup Discussion With Display v Argentina

Kylian Mbappe has put himself into the Player of the World Cup discussion with his performance against Argentina this afternoon.

The French attacker has had a relatively quiet tournament so far, scoring just once in the group stages.

But that all changed in today’s last 16 tie against Argentina in Kazan as he dismantled them to send France into the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Mbappe ripped through the entire Argentine midfield before drawing a foul in the box from Marcos Rojo, who, despite having a five-yard head start, was forced to haul him down going through on goal.

Antoine Griezmann converted that penalty to give France the lead, one they lost after Argentina scored two through Angel Di Maria and Gabriel Mercado.

Benjamin Pavard made it 2-2 with a goal of the tournament contender, but then it was over to Mbappe to make the game his own, brilliantly firing home from a tight angle in the box before finishing off a lovely French move to make it 4-2.

One look at Twitter and you see who everyone is talking about:

You have to consider Mbappe now as a contender for Player of the World Cup
