Celtic are interested in signing Deportivo’s Swiss centre-back Fabian Schar, according to reports in the Spanish media today.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have completed just one major signing so far this summer, with the capture of striker Odsonne Edouard for a record-breaking fee of around £9 million.
Whilst Rodgers and Hoops fans are probably over the moon with their attacking options, the club are still in desperate need of reinforcements in defence, and Schar could prove to be a potential bargain.

The 26-year-old performed well with Deportivo in La Liga last season but is expected to depart the club following their relegation to Spain’s second-tier, with Spanish news outlet El Desmarque claiming he wants a new challenge.
Moreover, the reports also claim Celtic are keen to bring him to Glasgow, and are considering triggering the release clause in his contract, which is said to be around £3.5 million.
Schar is a regular for the Switzerland national side and played in all but one of their qualifying matches for the World Cup, and he performed really well in his country’s tournament opener against Brazil on Sunday night.
Do you think Schar fits the bill for Celtic?
