Umar Sadiq Has Agreed to Join Rangers On-Loan, According to His Close Friend

Roma striker Umar Sadiq has agreed to join Rangers on-loan this summer, according to reports attributing quotes to his close friend.

As we’ve told you previously, the 21-year-old Nigerian youth international has been linked repeatedly with a move to Ibrox during the current transfer window, with Steven Gerrard looking to bolster his attacking options.

The Serie A giants forked out £2 million for his services from Spezia back in 2016, and he managed to score two goals in six Serie A games before he was sent on short loan spells with Bologna and Torino.

And Sadiq spent the second half of last season on loan with Dutch side NAC Breda, where he netted an impressive five goals in 13 games, which appears to have convinced Gerrard of his ability to make the grade in the Scottish Premiership.

According to African news outlet Own Goal Nigeria, his close friend Mohammed Mowiz Suleiman has been quoted as saying: “He (Sadiq) has agreed to join Rangers because at Roma the coach couldn’t guarantee him regular run of games if he stays.

“Something he knows he can get in Scotland with Rangers.

“I think the catch has to be the chance of working with Steven Gerrard. The move per the last time I spoke with Sadiq should be done by next week.

“He recently got married to his Italian girlfriend, so the issue of work permit won’t be an issue.”

If Sadiq does indeed sign for Rangers, he’ll become the club’s eighth summer arrival – but what do you think of the news?
