David de Gea’s blunder against Portugal tonight inevitably got the ‘whit’s the goalie daein?’ treatment.

He may be one of the world’s best goalkeepers, but he didn’t show it tonight as Cristiano Ronaldo fired three goals past him in a 3-3 draw.

Spain went behind to Ronaldo’s early penalty before hitting back through Diego Costa’s goal shortly after.

But Portugal got back in front again – and it was all down to de Gea’s error.

With Cristiano’s powerful shot coming straight at him, the Manchester United goalkeeper inexplicably parried the ball into the net.

And that’s led to the inevitable reaction, with many choosing to poke fun at de Gea, including one supporter who dubbed the ‘whit’s the goalie daein?’ Rangers TV commentary over the top of it:

That was always going to happen, wasn’t it?

De Gea would have been thinking he’d got out of jail when Costa equalised again before Nacho belted home a half volley to make it 3-2 to Spain going into the latter stages.

But Ronaldo had the final say on the game, curling home a beautiful free-kick to level the score and secure a 3-3 draw for Portugal.
