Ex-Barcelona star Dos Santos found the net after only 13 minutes and despite a fantastic headed effort from Swansea’s Oli McBurnie, the World Cup-bound Mexicans held on for a deserved victory in their own backyard.
The home side came into this one with a point to prove, after being held to a 0-0 draw with Wales in midweek.
Meanwhile Scotland were looking for an improvement following Wednesday’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Peru.
Unfortunately for Alex McLeish’s inexperienced team, there were few positives to take from the experience, other than giving some of the younger and lesser known players the chance to impress.
Mexico mustered 34 shots throughout the 90 minutes and boasted 64% of the possession, as the Scots struggled in both the heat and altitude.
Here are the match highlights, as per the Scotland National Team’s YouTube account:
Despite Scotland failing to pick up a victory during their end-of-season trip, McLeish remained positive after the final whistle.
He told Sky Sports, “The trip has been great.
“The players have been very professional. Normally they would be on their holidays. We would love to be going to the World Cup the same as Mexico.
“But we have played a couple of games that can help us build for the future.”
