Arsenal Fans Reckon They’ve Found an Absolute Gem in Midfielder Lucas Torreira

Arsenal supporters were more excited than most as they watched Uruguay’s progression in the World Cup knockout stages last night, with midfielder Lucas Torreira impressing throughout.

The diminutive tough-tackler has agreed to move to North London from Italian side Sampdoria for a fee in the region of £25 million, and his move to the Premier League is set to be completed next week.

Arsenal have been crying out for an elite holding midfielder for the best part of a decade, and Torreira’s display in Saturday evening’s 2-1 win over Portugal certainly suggested the Gunners finally had their man.

The 22-year-old more than held his own in the centre of the pitch against Portugal’s classy midfield, and even managed to leave one on Cristiano Ronaldo in the second-half.

He might not go on to be the new Patrick Vieira, but the early signs are that Torreira are very promising indeed:

Do you think he’ll be a massive star in the Premier League next season?
