Celtic Will Play Rosenborg in Next UCL Round After Norwegians Win Dramatic Tie

Celtic will play Rosenborg in the next round of Champions League qualifying after the Norwegians beat Valur in a dramatic tie this evening.

The Hoops are effectively in the second round of qualifying as they lead Armenians Alashkert 6-0 on aggregate after hitting three goals in the first half of their clash in Glasgow tonight.

They went into the game 3-0 up after last week’s first leg and opened the scoring quickly when Moussa Dembele powered home to make it 1-0 on the night.

A high boot from Jozo Simunovic saw him red carded shortly after, but that didn’t stop the one-way traffic to the away goal and Dembele scored from the penalty spot before James Forrest made it 3-0 before the break.

And attention quickly turned to what was happening in Norway as Rosenborg and Valur fought it out to play Celtic in the next round.

The Icelandic side led 1-0 going into tonight’s game and looked set to advance after scoring a late away goal to make it 2-1 on the night tie the game up 2-2 on aggregate.

But Nicklas Bendtner hit the net in the final minutes to make it 3-2 to Rosenborg on aggregate and send them into a second round tie with Celtic:

So it will be Rosenborg visiting Glasgow next week for the first leg before the Hoops then go out to Norway the following week.

It’s the second season in a row the teams will play in Europe, with Celtic winning 1-0 on aggregate in qualifying last term.
