The 19-year-old has established himself as one of the club’s most exciting young talents, and his goal in last weekend’s friendly win over Standard Liege underlined his talents and sparked reports of interest from other Premiership clubs, as we told you yesterday.
But, according to Brendan Rodgers, the talented midfielder remains firmly in his plans – for the moment at least.
Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League qualifier second-leg against Alashkert FC, Rodgers was asked about Johnston’s future, and the Northern Irishman didn’t seem to be on the verge of sending one his exciting young talents out on-loan:
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says Mikey Johnston will “very much be staying here at this point in time" and "is very much in my plans” – despite links to St Mirren and Hibs.
He also hopes Dedryck Boyata will sign a new deal, but is on holiday so no talks have taken place. pic.twitter.com/3AgiRhtA72

Of course, Rodgers’ comments don’t ensure Johnston won’t be going out to gain experience later in the summer, but it certainly seems he won’t be leaving for the moment.
What do you think of the comments?
