He might be one of the most revered and respected players in his position in world football but N’Golo Kanté required Steven N’Zonzi to help him acquire a picture with the World Cup trophy, following France’s historic win over Croatia yesterday.
The Chelsea midfielder enjoyed a brilliant tournament, and was in the running for the player of the tournament award going into yesterday’s final against Croatia, only to be substituted early into the second-half.
Despite being hauled off, Kante was still magnificent over the last four weeks in Russia, and deserved a bit of one-on-one time alone with the trophy – but he was just too shy to ask for it.
According to the Metro, the 27-year-old was simply too bashful to demand he take possession of the iconic trinket – and it required the forceful nature of N’Zonzi to make sure Kante got his snap:
I love Kante. He was too shy to ask to hold the World Cup so N’Zonzi got it for him. What a guy.

N’Golo Kanté played yesterday’s World Cup final for France with a stomach bug, which explains his dip in performance levels in the showpiece event.

Considering he was playing in the French Third Division in his early twenties, we’d say Kante deserves every single ounce of the praise and respect coming him way now that he’s officially a World Champion.
And, of course, he definitely deserved his picture with the famous trophy.
