The Scotland international spent the second-half of last season on-loan at Ibrox after failing to break into the first-team at the City Ground, and went on to bag just six goals in his time with the Gers.
As we told you over the weekend, Cummings has shared with his Instagram followers how much he wanted to make the move to Glasgow permanent, but it seems Steven Gerrard wasn’t too enamoured with his performances for the light blues last season.
Speaking via the Sun, Karanka was straight to the point when asked about Cummings and his future with the club, following the 22-year-old’s loan move to Peterborough.
The Spanish coach said: “We want him to show what he can do.
“Sometimes it is good for a player to realise that it is not always easy.
“He went to Rangers at the start of the year and he was scoring goals to begin with.
“But by the end Rangers did not want him, so he came back here.
“Maybe his expectations were higher. But at the end of it he has to go to League One.
“Life in football can be difficult and you have to work hard to take the right steps forward.”
Cummings is now attempting to revive his career in England’s League One, but what do you make of Karanka’s comments?
