Patrick Roberts on Returning to Celtic: ‘You Never Know in Football’

Patrick Roberts has raised Celtic supporters’ hopes this afternoon by admitting he could return to Glasgow at some point in the future – as his Manchester City career remains in doubt.

The exciting winger won the hearts of Hoops supporters after a brilliant two-and-a-half years with the Premiership champions, but his loan spell ended in May, and Roberts headed back to his parent club at City.

Roberts has been linked with a move to Premier League side Leicester City this summer, but he still remains a City player, and with the English transfer window closing early this year, it remains to be seen if Roberts will be able to secure a move away.

The England youth internationalist is entering into the final year of his deal at the Etihad, and speaking via the Daily Record, he said: “Obviously I said at the end of the season that I spent a good two-and-a-half years there and my time was brilliant.

“You never know in football.

“I’ve said before that I could end up back there at some point but right now I’m just looking at what’s best for me and best for my future.”

“No [I’ve not spoken to Guardiola], I’m just here to train, work hard and get my fitness up.

“We’ll see what happens.

“I know the window closes soon. If something happens before then, great. We’ll have to see what happens. I can’t really say anything. We’ll have to see what’s best for me. But right now, I don’t know. We’ll see.”

So, if an English club can’t prise him away before August 9, could Roberts be heading back to Celtic for a third loan?
