Raphael Varane is Being Showered with Praise For His Immense Performance Against Belgium

France are in the World Cup Final after seeing off Belgium in the semi-finals, and centre-back Raphael Varane is being crowned as one of the heroes following the 1-0 victory.

A second-half header from Samuel Umtiti was enough to see off Robert Martinez’s side in Saint Petersburg but the French defence was forced to keep at bay an intense onslaught in the closing stages from their opponents.

Belgium possess some of the greatest attacking talents in world football at the moment, and preventing the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku from finding the back of the net for 90 minutes takes some doing.

But when you have Varane in your back four, then it seems anything is possible.

The Real Madrid player was absolutely immense throughout, winning just about every aerial duel in the penalty area, as well as mopping up any potential dangerous through-balls.

At the age of 25, there’s plenty of fans who now reckon Varane has to be considered as one of the best defenders on the planet:

How highly do you rate Varane?
