Steven Gerrard Names New-Look Starting XI For First Rangers Game at Ibrox

Steven Gerrard has named a new-look starting XI for his first friendly as Rangers manager at Ibrox.

It’s expected over 40,000 will pack into Ibrox tonight to see them go up against Bury in what is Rangers’ second pre-season friendly.

And it’ll be the final time Gerrard will put his players through their paces in a game before Thursday night’s Europa League clash with FC Shkupi.

It will also be the first opportunity for the supporters to see some new stars in the flesh for the first time.

So Gerrard has included five summer signings in his starting XI for tonight’s game, with Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Scott Arfield, Jon Flanagan and Allan McGregor all included:

Significantly, McGregor is in goal ahead of Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick amid talk that the former has been told he’s got no future at Ibrox.

Flanagan lines up at left back over Declan John, while Ross McCrorie gets a midfield berth instead of playing at centre half.

Katic and Goldson look like the centre half pairing Gerrard will start the season with.
