Katic was signed from Slaven Belupo earlier this summer on a four-year deal, with Gerrard sanctioning the £2 million transfer as he attempts to overhaul the club’s defensive options.
The 21-year-old has been capped twice by the Croatian Under-21s, and even has one senior cap to his name, but after working with the centre-back for six weeks or so, Gerrard seems pretty convinced it’s only a matter of time before he adds to that total:
🎙️SG: For sure, [if Nikola Katic] keeps progressing, he will be a national team player. He is obsessed with improving individually, and he has mixed very, very well with the group. It is my responsibility to help him grow.

Katic looks set to start tomorrow night’s Europa League qualifier away to Croatian side Osijek, with a decent run in European competition likely to improve the club’s finances.
But do you think Katic has what it takes to make it in the Croatia team? Is he an international star in the making?
