According to various reports in the media, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has sanctioned around £1.5 million for the 23-year-old, who only has one year remaining on his current contract at Easter Road.
Thought to be a lifelong Celtic fan, McGinn’s grandfather Jack was once on the Celtic board, and speculation about McGinn becoming the long-term successor to Scott Brown in the club’s midfield has raged for some time now.
Given Celtic’s financial superiority in the Scottish Premiership, they might be the only club in Scotland who could prise McGinn away from Hibs, and whilst we’re sure there’s lots of Celtic followers who’d love to see McGinn wearing their iconic shirt next season, it turns out there’s definitely a few people who aren’t so keen:
Get McGinn so far to fuck, what the fuck is going on wae Kouassi as well fucking honking treatment.

JUST BECAUSE MCGINN IS SCOTTISH AND RUNS ABOUT A LOT DOESNT MEAN HES GOOD ENOUGH OR WE SHOULD SIGN HIM.

I’d rather play Eboue Kouassi than have John McGinn in my team.

Kouassi before McGinn. #Anytime

Am not a John McGinn fan as a think he's very overrated but 1 things for sure if he signs he will get the backing everyone does who signs! And there's been plenty to prove me wrong over the years

Beyond me as to why Celtic want to sign McGinn when we have Kouassi who is a far better player
— reece (@ReeceSpark) July 3, 2018
Ntcham, Brown, McGregor, Eboue.
Does McGinn get in ahead of them? Is he better than any of them?
Surely Eboue deserves a chance before we sign someone across the country and give him 15+ games a season whilst Eboue has not even had 15 appearances in 2 seasons.

If Rodgers believes McGinn is the long term replacement for Brown (I don’t tbh) then surely we sign him in Jan on a pre contract rather than over spend on a player and a position that isn’t a priority at the moment?

If Celtic sign McGinn and sell tierney in the same window say goodbye to ten in a row
— piero (@pieroreipiero) July 3, 2018
And obvs a meant shouldn’t

Circa £4 million for McGinn when he's free to sign a pre contract in 6 months is mental. Would be shocked if anyone paid that. https://t.co/fVWyIR1nNh

If we lose KT and sign John McGinn I’ll be handing my season ticket back
— Dean Kelly (@Albi0nSails0n_) July 3, 2018
If we do buy McGinn (which we shouldn’t) I hope he does well, however we should not be spending anything over 2 million. Especially when midfield is the LAST place we need to be adding to.

Where’s all these English premier league clubs bidding for John McGinn😂Pure fantasy from the media. Vastly overrated.
— Steven (@chapstar09) July 3, 2018
I'm still not overly keen on McGinn unless we also move Eboue and Bitton on.
— TheGlassCutter (@TheGlassCutter) June 23, 2018
Do you think McGinn would definitely improve Celtic’s midfield? Should Rodgers continue to chase him?
What do you think?
