Video: Ex-Rangers Defender David Bates Scores His First Goal For Hamburg

Former Rangers defender David Bates appears to be adjusting to life in German football well after scoring his first goal for the club in a friendly match last night.

The centre-back left Ibrox for the Bundesliga 2 side at the end of the Scottish Premiership season, having failed to reach an agreement with the Scottish Premiership side over a new contract to stay in Glasgow.

Hamburg pounced and managed to secure his services on a free transfer, and it certainly looks like they might’ve bagged themselves a bargain.

Albeit his header came in a crushing 10-0 win over lower-league side TuS Dassendorf, Bates’ goal gives a hint to just how well he’s adapting to life playing football in a foreign country.

If he manages to help fire the club towards a promotion push back towards the Bundesliga next season, should Bates become a realistic contender for a place in future Scotland squads?

What do you think?
